Jet on Newcastle metro
As they say on their brochure ' Getting around toon is a piece of cake ' well it is on the Metro but I didn't find driving through it that easy..love the tunnel tho. Jet was great but he was concerned at the noises outside when we were in tunnels.
Like any city its impossible to see everything in a day, but we managed to visit The Biscuit Factory..a lovely contemporary art and craft gallery, China Town, The Castle, The Baltic and crossed some of the bridges.
Link to Lindisfarne- The fog on the Tyne..well worth watching even just for a lesson in 1970's fashion !

Durham Cathedral
Durham is a beautiful small city, full of narrow winding cobbled streets, surrounding the wonderful Medieval Durham Cathedral.
You are asked not to take photos inside but outside is a famous door knocker..known as The Sanctuary Knocker.
Years ago anyone who committed a terrible offence could knock on the door. The monks who originally had a window above would let them in and the Galilee bell would be rung to let everyone know. They had to wear a black cloak with St Cuthbert's Cross sewn onto the left shoulder, and were given 37 days sanctuary where they could plead for their lives or plan their escape.
It's worth reading up about the cathedral before you go because of so much to see. It is also known for being the last resting place of St Cuthbert and the Venerable Bede.
Nearby was Bedesworld...which we didn't visit because we thought it was a theme park..it is actually a Museum of early Medieval Northumbria...wish I'd gone !...it does sound like the film Waynes World though.
21st August
Near Housteads Fort on Hadrians Wall.
A beautiful site with amazing views, my photos don't do it justice.
You can follow Hadrians Wall along the B6138...I love B roads... and this one is a great road going through fabulous landscape.
The fort was built 1,900 years ago and is the most complete Roman fort in Britain.I was surprised to find that joining The National Trust was cheaper than joining in Cornwall...not quite sure why...but I usually find it's very good value..and I enjoy being a member....would be lovely to be commissioned to do a bit of restoration wood graining etc one day....hint,hint !

St Michael's Mount
Last morning in Marazion, so walked the causeway over to St Michaels mount...so lucky with the weather, it looked and was beautiful.
After packing tent away we drove to Newquay, in time to see some surfing.I know artists love Cornwall for the light, so I had to see why for myself. Everything seems so much brighter , richer and deeper in colour.
